In Goto City, Nagasaki Prefecture, Mr. Haruo Oba crafts knives entirely by hand, pursuing ease of use blades resistant to chipping and easy to sharpen.
After five years of apprenticeship under Mr. Toshio Oba, the third-generation master of Oba Forge which crafts traditional "Hakata Single-Blade Knives" and Japan's sole "Dohyo Hoe," he honed his skills.
His unique camellia-shaped knives, reminiscent of Hakata knives, are top of the line, showcasing an energetic finish characteristic of a flame-touched blacksmith that evokes the essence of handmade craftsmanship.
